Is the UN biased against Israel?

Short answer: The UN's political organs are tilted against Israel. You can measure it in the counts, not just in tone. The reason is voting blocs: the 56-state Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the ~120-state Non-Aligned Movement together hold an automatic majority in the General Assembly. But "the UN" is really two different things under one name, and an honest answer covers both. One part is the political chambers, where the votes are just arithmetic. The other part is the technical agencies, whose field data this site itself relies on. "The UN is against Israel" is true of the first part. It is unproven, and mostly false, for the second. And the UN also created Israel.

The counts [each tagged]

  • The General Assembly voted for the 1947 partition plan that Israel's founding rested on. It admitted Israel in 1949 [VERIFIED via UN records — the UN midwifed the Jewish state]
  • In most recent years, the Assembly has condemned Israel more than all other countries combined (about 15–20 resolutions a year, versus a handful for the rest of the world) [DOCUMENTED via UN voting records as tallied by UN Watch]
  • Israel is the only country with a permanent standing agenda item at the Human Rights Council (Item 7). It is also the only subject of an open-ended, no-expiry Commission of Inquiry [VERIFIED via HRC records]
  • In 1975 the Assembly declared Zionism "a form of racism" (72–35–32). It revoked that in 1991 (111–25), when the end of the Cold War changed the voting arithmetic. That is proof the votes measure membership politics, not findings [VERIFIED via UN records]
  • The same Council voted 19–17 against even debating the UN's own report on China's Xinjiang camps (2022) [VERIFIED via HRC vote record]
  • ICJ advisory opinions concerning Israel: three. Concerning China's, Iran's, or Russia's conduct: zero. The referrals flow from the same Assembly majority [VERIFIED via the ICJ docket]

The counterweights — same razor, other direction

  • Assembly resolutions bind no one. Enforcement lives in the Security Council. There, the US has vetoed dozens of Israel-related resolutions — a mirror-image shield that any consistent analysis must name [DOCUMENTED via UNSC voting records]
  • At the ICC, both Putin and Netanyahu are under arrest warrants, issued at a comparable pace. Xi and Iran's leadership are out of reach by jurisdictional design, not by acquittal [VERIFIED via ICC records]
  • The technical UN produces real evidence: WHO's polio-campaign data, OCHA field reporting, and the UN's own investigation that fired nine UNRWA staff. These are professional processes this site cites constantly [DOCUMENTED throughout this corpus]

The tool: ask two questions of every "the UN says" claim

Which organ? By what process? A General Assembly vote is member-state arithmetic dressed up as a verdict. A WHO vaccination count is checkable field data. Treating the first as a moral finding, and dismissing the second as bias, are the same error in opposite directions [ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORK — see Document 15 on rhetorical laundering].
